Situated on a hill top in the heart of Lancashire lies Hoghton Tower a fortified Manor House complete with a great barn and other farm buildings and a beautiful garden. Illustrious visitors include Kings James1, William 111, George V and Queen Mary. Shakespeare may have visited and JM Turner and Mr Dickens certainly did. Originally built in 1109 it was recreated in 1565 by a member of the same de Hoghton family who lived there for centuries. Their ancestor was a companion of William the Conqueror so we could say that it is steeped in history. Find out if James 1 really did knight Sir Loin. If we are lucky with the famous Lancashire weather we will be see the commanding views that include North Wales and the Lake District. So come and join us for a private tour of the Tower an enjoy an enthralling afternoon out. We are told that there is a splendid Tea Room should you want to complete the day with afternoon tea or a cream scone.
If you need a lift from the Heritage Centre (and back again!) please let us know, we’ll meet at 12.15pm.
