Initially the finds, mainly comprising pottery, were washed on the picnic tables outside the cafe and then brought inside the Green Room to be sorted and classified. Due to the volume of material, only the finds found in the latest context, ie the first to be dug, were examined which comprised mainly 19th century pottery.
The material was sorted into types, identified and weighed. Those taking part learnt a lot from Alex on pottery relating to this period. Due to the success of the event it is proposed to hold a similar meeting on Saturday, 12th November in place of the field walk which has been publicised for that date.On Saturday, 29th October the group met to clean and classify the finds from the excavation carried out last June at The Craggs.
